[ But he leans in to press a soft, tender kiss to Corry's cheek. When he's being so affectionate, it feels wrong to dwell on his more negative aspects. ]
Ah, do you want to ... stay the night? I know my place is a little small, but ...
[Corry hums low in his throat, visibly perturbed for a moment. But then he softens, coming back to the moment and giving that crooked grin.]
I'm never letting you out of my sight again, so hell yeah I wanna stay the night. [His big hands slide up the back of Junpei's shirt, warm and rough and possessive.] I wanna celebrate, y'know? Isn't every day you find out you're gonna be a dad, right?
I mean I want to memorize every inch of your body so I can tell exactly what's changed.
[Beneath Junpei's shirt, Corrigan’s big hands are mapping out the contours of his waist, his hips, his stomach, his chest.] And so I can keep worshipping every inch exactly the way you deserve.
[ He can't hold back for very long. There's a cute, sharp gasp as those hands wander, accompanied by ticklish wiggling. ]
Ah! Corry! It ... probably won't change for awhile ... !
[ But the knowledge it will? Kind of turns him on. Knowing that as a result of the intense, pleasurable session all those weeks ago his body is going to start to change. Glancing down, he imagines for a moment what he'll look like pregnant. It sends a shiver through him. ]
[Corry feels that delighted, tickling squirming, leaning back in the secondhand couch and sliding his hands back to cradle Junpei's stomach.]
Not all at once, just little by little. Just enough for me to notice. [He leans up, steals a lingering, messy kiss.] Since I'll be the one checking every single day. I'll know exactly when you start getting all sensitive and sore and I'll be right there to make it feel better.
[ He's staying. He's not just staying ... he's clearly excited. Looking forward to being with him. Looking forward to ... ]
... I think ... you'll be a great father.
[ Not words he was expecting to say. But he means them. His baby is wanted. Their baby is wanted. Is going to be loved and cared for. By both of them.
His own father had walked out of his life long ago. His mother had raised him all by herself since then, and he had thought of her and the things she'd done for him the moment he found out he was expecting. ]
Yeah? [Corrigan goes impossibly soft, eyes warm and almost worshipful as he cradles Junpei's face in his hands. There's a protectiveness there too, eyes flickering briefly to the scars he's only caught glimpses of, his brow furrowing momentarily.
Then he leans in, kisses Junpei again, arms sliding around his slim waist, pulling him close.] I'm gonna do my damn best. Never gonna let anyone or anything hurt either of you, ever again. I swear. Gonna be a better dad than mine was.
[His voice drops, mouth warm and insistent against Junpei's throat.] I'm not letting you go. As long as you'll have me, I'm here.
[ Months pass, and Junpei's body does indeed change ...
... much more dramatically than he could have anticipated, as it turned out he wasn't having one baby, but two, a fact that nearly made him faint in the doctor's office when it was revealed to him. Also a fact that made him cranky with Corrigan for days after. That was a fairly common occurrence, however, as in spite of his good intentions the older man still had his flaws and vices.
And so Junpei found himself eight months pregnant, absolutely huge with twins, struggling to get up from the couch as he often did. It would have been easier if Corry was around, but it was yet another night where he was alone. Stewing. Anger boiling up inside of him.
What a fool he'd been to be so easily swayed by honeyed words and promises. Was the other even going to be around for when he went into labor? Was he going to have to try and get himself to the hospital alone? The thought didn't just make him angry, it terrified him.
Finally getting onto his feet he huffed lowly, starting his slow waddle to the kitchen to try and fix himself something for dinner, hands supporting his suffering back. He wasn't really built to handle twins, but he had little choice. ]
[Corrigan is really good at the sweet words, at the promises and high hopes and all of that. He holds up a lot of the promises, too -- he makes sure that the couch in Junpei's place gets replaced, he shells out for the best doctors, the best prenatal care, all the vitamins and maternity clothes and massages and the like. He spends countless nights over, on the new mattress, adjusting pillows and going to the store to get various craving snacks.
And yet, also, there's his job. And the business trips. And he doesn't want Junpei to travel in his condition, so he goes for a weekend. And then for a week. And babies are expensive and they're having two, so he picks up extra projects and he's gone more and more and maybe he's scared too. Scared of how overwhelming the idea of having three people depending on him is. Scared of failing. Scared of fucking up.
So: it's been a week, and Corry's back from Madrid and he's letting himself into the apartment with a long, low sigh.]
[ It’s very difficult to just huff away quickly when you’re as big as Junpei is. But he makes a valiant effort, sticking his noise in the air and turning away from Corry.
He’s probably being a little unfair, but he’s sore and cranky and … ]
I’m hungry.
[ Another thing that had changed. Junpei was never a big eater before getting pregnant, but now he felt like he never ate enough. Midnight snacks were an every night routine. ]
Baby. [It comes out soft, tired, even as Corrigan is kicking off his shoes and crossing the small apartment, reaching out for Junpei. He's exhausted and jetlagged and just wants to sleep, but he can feel the annoyance and he's not such an asshole that he'd just ignore it.]
I'll get you something, c'mere. Get off your feet. [He slides his arms around Junpei's not-so-slender waist, nuzzles the back of his neck.]
[ It’s a pitiful display, him trying to reach the cupboards to get something out while being both too short and too pregnant to easily do so. There’s a lot of grunting and huffing, his face growing red with frustration before he finally just gives up and grabs a bag of chips from the counter. Popping the bag open he starts to stuff his face less than gracefully, not caring how he appears to this man anymore. He was probably taking long trips on purpose so as not to have to look at how gross he’s gotten!! ]
Mmph. Maybe. What do you care? You probably have some hot young thing you’re seeing. Some hot young not pregnant thing.
[It's -- okay, yeah, it's pitiful, but it's also really fucking cute. Corry crosses his arms, watching in amusement, lips pressed together to hide his smirk.
At least until Junpei says that. Corrigan’s smile immediately vanishes, expression growing stern. His voice becomes too sharp, sharper than he means:] Hey. Stop that. Look at me.
[Crossing the room in two quick strides, he takes hold of Junpei's shoulders, turning him around -- still careful, still gentle, even though his voice is short and stern.] Is that really what you think of me?
[ It's so hard to be stoic when the truth is you're sad and in pain. Even as Junpei's struggling to keep a stern look on his face, there are hints he's instead trying not to cry. ]
W-well what am I supposed to think? I see you less and less ... the bigger and m-more ...
[ His voice cracks, and that's when he knows he's not going to be able to hold on. The tears come, the dam bursting. ]
[All Corrigan’s sternness melts away at the tears -- seeing Junpei cry is his biggest most blatantly obvious weakness, almost making him cry every single time. It's a physical pain in his chest, intense and wrenching, and he quickly ducks down to meet those big teary eyes.]
God, sweetheart, Junpei, you're perfect. You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire goddamn life and you have been since the day I met you. There's nobody else. Not since that day. There never will be.
[Corrigan falters a little, mouth working helplessly for a moment. Finally he sighs, stepping back and tugging Junpei with him.]
Hey, c’mere, sit down. C'mon. [His voice is soft, drawling,, coaxing them both to sit back on the couch. Once there, he tugs Junpei into his arms, baby belly and all.]
[ As much as he wants to push Corrigan away, he’s so hungry for touch and comfort he instead allows himself to be plopped on the couch beside him. There’s a little shifting as he tries to get comfortable, a task that is more and more challenging lately.
And then, one of the babies kicks him hard enough that it makes him cry out in surprise, hand going to the spot on his belly that he felt it. ]
[Corry goes quiet as his hand is guided to the indignant kicking, as it sort of sinks in for the first time that the creator of said kicking is real. This is all real, whether he's there or not.
His palm slowly smooths back and forth over the taut shape of Junpei's stomach, then he lets out a soft sigh.]
I'm an asshole. But you know that, don't you? [Another slow exhale.] I don't want to fuck this up, babe.

[But then Corry is quiet for a moment, tucking Junpei's hair behind his ears, gaze faraway.]
But I guess I haven't given you much reason to believe otherwise, huh?
